After an import, SendBeam shows one sentence that accounts for every row. Find the part that matches what you're missing.

The import was refused

  • "Contact limit reached. You have … slot(s) left…" Your file has more subscribed contacts than your plan has room for, so nothing was imported. Upgrade on Billing & Plans, or import fewer rows. Unsubscribed, bounced and complained rows don't count towards the limit.
  • "No valid contacts found…" SendBeam couldn't find email addresses. Check that one column is mapped to Email on the mapping screen, and that the file is a UTF-8 CSV with a header row. See Preparing your CSV file.
  • "No importable contacts: every row is pending confirmation…" Every row's status is pending (or unconfirmed). People who never confirmed are never imported. If they did confirm on your old platform, export them again with their confirmed status.
  • "The file is too large…" Split the CSV into smaller files and import them one after another.
  • "This list is archived, so it takes no new members." Unarchive the list, or choose another one.

Some rows were left out

  • pending rows not imported. Those rows had the status pending: the people never confirmed. Nothing to do, unless they confirmed elsewhere. Then export them as subscribed.
  • invalid rows. The email is missing, malformed or too long, a name is over the limit, or the status isn't one SendBeam knows. Fix those rows and import just them. See Recognised columns.
  • placeholder addresses skipped. Addresses that can never receive mail, such as @example.com or abuse@. Nothing to do: they would only bounce.
  • skipped because the domain can't receive mail. The domain doesn't exist or has no mail server. Check the spelling of the domains named. See Addresses that cannot receive mail.
  • duplicates skipped. The address is already a contact and Skip duplicate emails was ticked: their name and source were kept, and tags and fields from the file were still added. If the file has fresher names, untick Skip duplicate emails and import again. See Handling duplicates.

They came in, but not as subscribers

If the result says some were opted out and added to the suppression list, those rows were unsubscribed, bounced or complained (or cleaned, cancelled, spam from other platforms). They're kept so you never email them again, and they won't receive campaigns. See Statuses and the suppression list.

An import never turns someone who already unsubscribed, bounced or complained back into a subscriber, whatever the file says.

A row with no status takes the default status you chose on the import page, so check that choice before you import: rows that come in unsubscribed stay unsubscribed, and importing them again won't change that.

A column didn't come across

columns ignored and columns that could not become fields name the columns SendBeam skipped. A contact can hold a limited number of custom fields, and very long or repeated headers can't become fields. Rename or remove those columns and import again. A message like "values for … left out" means some cells didn't fit that field's type (for example text in a number field).
